JOB#01032018: Children’s Librarian (Full-Time)
The duties of this full time position (35 hours per week) include providing reference, reader’s advisory and computer-related assistance to children, young adults, caregivers, and families within the Children’s Services Department, the coordination and implementation of juvenile and family programs, issuing library cards, shelf reading and maintaining library collections, and performing other duties as assigned.
This position includes some evening and weekend (Saturday) hours. Also included are paid holidays, generous allowances for personal and vacation time, excellent health and retirement benefits and the option of employee-paid eye and dental benefits. Salary range for this position is $40K to $44K, contingent upon education and experience.
In accordance with PA Department of Human Services guidelines, all prospective employees must be able to provide following documents before starting employment. Once employed, all employees are required to submit updated copies of each document every sixty (60) months:
- PA State Criminal Record Check
- Child Abuse Clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal Background

Ideal Candidate should possess:
- A MLS/MLIS in Library/Information Science; candidates with ALA accredited MLS in Library Science are preferred.
- A thorough knowledge of library practices, children’s literature and experience in children’s programming.
- Ability to work cooperatively, courteously, skillfully, accurately and constructively with the public and other library staff.
- Second Language, preferably Spanish, is a plus.
